i would like to tell you about a book i bought the other day at borders. its called "Food Court Druids, Cherohonkees, and Other Creatures Unique to the Republic" by Robert Lanham. this is seriously the funniest book ive ever read. its sister book, "The Hipster Handbook" came recommended to me by my cousins wife. i checked them both out, but decided this one was better. here is a photo:

this book is all about common stereotypes in the US, such as the "Happy Monday" (aka excessively cheerful office workers with overly earnest or maternal natures) or the "Zinger" (aka people who constantly yell out punch lines from movies, commercials, and television). if youd like to check out this book more in depth, heres the website: http://www.foodcourtdruids.com/
i would definitely recommend it. it has kept me highly amused for hours, which is pretty darn good for a book since i never read.
anyways, yeah thats all i got.

why is it that so many people here dont care about making friends?
there are atleast three people that i know of on my floor (weird since thats 3 out of 16) that have told me they dont care about making friends here. mary told me last night at dinner that she has no reason to make friends because the people here arent worth her time. she has better friends at home so why would she make an effort to meet people? they all suck anyway, so she says. ive heard it from alicia and marie, too. marie hasnt made one friend since being here...maybe thats why shes transfering.
i dont understand...i thought thats what college was about! how could you be by yourself all the time? i see them sitting in their rooms on a friday night, watching a movie by themselves or even doing homework so they can go to sleep early. why?!?! does this happen at other schools or just mine?? |

| | cheerful | ] | i would like to take the next few minutes to talk about my adorable and amazing professor, Jack. Here is his head shot:

Jack is seriously the best teacher ever. Not only did he invite us to his house in october for pizza, he invited us a second time the other night for a secret santa party with banana splits. He is so nice and cares so much about us, it is so cute. Here is example one of his awesomeness (an email):
See ya in class and I hope you had some good times over the weekend and that I don't have to bail any of ya outta jail. Jack PS. I'm dressing up for Hallowe'en today as a professor, so you might not recognize me.
Second example.
You guys who are now so maaahhhture that you can register online, well la dee da to you. Still, you have to come by my office to pick up your pin number. That way I can still see your mugg and remind you that I miss you and wish you well. If you are a punk first year student, make sure that you have 2,367 possibilities for classes when you come in. Well, how about eight or nine.
Example three. If you didnt read anything else in this post, read this. its sooo cute.
Dear Gang o' Mine! Ok, so here comes finals week. And papers and tests and labs and PAAAAAAAANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHILL. If it's the end of the world, then it doesn't matter. If it's not the end of the world, it feels like it matters, but ya know what? It matters a lot less than making sure you get your rest and making sure you decorate a tree and walk downtown 8th Street. Visit Santa. What the heck. Be a kid. Stick your tongue on a lamp post. Watch a silly Christmas movie or a good one. Go buy a present for your kid brother or sister or niece or nephew. Make up with someone. Give a card or a donut to a custodian. Thank someone you never thanked before for something they would never know that you appreciated. Sleep. Sleep some more. Take a study break with your pals and go have pizza or coffee or hot chocolate or Guinness stout or peppermint ice cream. Slide on the ice. Look up at the sky. Stand in a snowfall. Watch the light. Walk down the street at night in a snowstorm. Look out the window and think of home. And part way through each lab report or paper or exam, look up and smile, glad you know what is really REALLY important. And remind yourself of what the Grinch learned, that "It came. It came just the same." Jack
I love him!! What a great teacher, seriously. Im sorry if you cant see how awesome this guy is, and i know some of you dont care, i just thought maybe someone might. Cause i know i do. christmas is coming!!!!!!!!!!!! |

i have a few things to say about harry potter 4. if you havent seen the movie, stop reading now...or risk knowing slight details about it.
k here are my problems with the movie. 1. the quidditch world cup scene...it looked like a music video! way too modern, not harry potter-ish at all. 2. the shortness of the underwater/mermaid scene. as soon as it started it was over! 3. professor moody..he didnt look like a harry potter character at all. minus the whole eye thing. 4. the maze scene!!!! there was nothing to it!! they left out so much and it was waaaaay too short. 5. dumbledore..he was much to lively and outgoing; he is not following the old one's personality at all. 6. i didnt think voldemort was scary enough...maybe it was just me, but i thought he was way scarier in the 1st movie. 7. the yule ball scene, when they go from classical dancing to griding...i didnt know harry knew what that was.
even though it seems like i didnt like the movie, actually i thought it was really good. i was pretty scared at points: i covered my eyes a few times. there were so many awesome parts too, i just think it was a really hard book to put to movie, considering the length.
any thoughts? |

"who does that? seriously." 3. "why the F would you waste your time on those things" 4. "no one wants to know anything about your life...especially in writing."
maybe its just not a michigan thing? |
